Soft tissue refers to all tissues in the body that have not been hardened due to the process of ossification or calcification. Soft tissue connects, surrounds, or supports internal organs and bones, including muscles, tendons, ligaments, fat, fibrous tissue, skin, lymph and blood vessels, fascia and synovium. Soft tissue infections are caused by microorganisms invading the skin and its supporting structures. Treatment depends on the severity and location of the infection and the patient's comorbidities. Infections can be classified as simple (not complicated) or complex (necrotizing or non-necrotic), or purulent or non-suppurative. Most acquired infections are caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and beta hemolytic streptococcus. Simple infection is usually a single microbial infection, accompanied by local clinical manifestations. Conversely, complex infections may be single or multi-microbes, and may be accompanied by systemic inflammatory response syndrome. Soft tissue infections can affect the skin, subcutaneous tissue, fascia and muscles. These infections can occur when the skin breaks (such as a wound or injury) to allow microorganisms to enter. The weakened individual's immune system will also greatly increase the risk of this disease, so effective anti-infective drugs for soft tissue infections are needed. To this end, Creative Diagnostics has established an animal disease model for soft tissue infection research to determine the efficacy of new therapies.
We have established a soft tissue infection model in mice, in which the quadriceps femoris muscles of one or two mice are injected intramuscularly (IM) with pathogens. After the infection model is established, the test antimicrobial candidate can be administered by gavage (PO) or subcutaneous (SC), intravenous (IV) or intraperitoneal (IP) injection. In this process, we can customize each study parameter (animal strain, pathogen, comparator and dosing schedule) according to your requirements to meet the needs of various studies.
The study's endpoints include mortality tracking, clinical observation, and CFU burden in organs, and/or blood.
